The magazine ranked 67 Texas hospitals based on quality metrics, reputation, patient satisfaction and patient-reported outcome measures. For quality measures, Newsweek drew data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; the Joint Commission; the nonprofit hospital standards group Planetree; the American Nurses Credential Center’s Magnet program; and the Accreditation Commission for Health Care.
Both St. David’s and Ascension Texas executives said they were “honored to be recognized” on this list.
“This would not have been possible without the unwavering commitment of our physicians, nurses and staff, who provide high-quality, compassionate care to our patients and their families every day,” said St. David’s CEO Todd Stewart.
Ascension Texas’ CEO Jamie Youssef, said making the list “is a testament to the dedication of our caregivers who consistently provide quality, compassionate care for all. We’re proud to be recognized for the care our mission-driven associates provide to our community every day.”
Children’s hospitals were not included in the rankings; they are evaluated separately. Some smaller hospitals share the same CMS identification number as larger hospitals and therefore were not ranked individually.
When it came to patient experience, Baylor Scott & White – Round Rock and St. David’s Round Rock earned a special nod.
In addition to Austin’s St. David’s Medical Center and Ascension Seton Medical Center, hospitals in Houston and Dallas dominated the top 10.
