NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – A teen has died after a shooting, and two suspects have been arrested and charged.
A 16-year-old boy was killed in a shooting on Saengerhalle Road in New Braunfels, and two suspects — including an 18-year-old who was also shot — have been arrested on capital murder charges, police said.
New Braunfels police and fire were dispatched to Saengerhalle Road on Feb. 19, 2026, at about 6 p.m. after multiple reports of shots fired. Callers reported hearing multiple gunshots and said they saw individuals fleeing from a residence.
Officers found a 16-year-old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police said officers provided immediate lifesaving measures, but the teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators were later notified that an 18-year-old male had been dropped off at Resolute Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. Police said he was transferred to University Hospital in San Antonio and remains in critical condition.
After what police described as an extensive investigation that included interviews, video review, and evidence collection, investigators identified two primary suspects.
Police said Jayce Cooper, 18, was identified as the shooter of the deceased victim. Police also said Cooper is the person who was dropped off at Resolute Hospital and that he was shot by the victim during the altercation.
A 16-year-old suspect was also identified as being present and involved in the altercation, police said.
Police said a warrant for capital murder was issued for Cooper. He is in custody at University Hospital, with plans to transfer him to the Bexar County Jail after he recovers.
The 16-year-old suspect was detained, charged with capital murder, and transferred to the Guadalupe County Juvenile Detention Center, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests or charges may be pending, police said. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the New Braunfels Police Department at 830-221-4100.
