San Diego State received a Class of 2027 quarterback commitment Friday from Jack Devine, a dual-threat QB who produced Texas-sized statistics last season at Austin’s Regents High School.
The 6-foot-3 Devine passed for 3,492 yards with 55 touchdowns and only three interceptions, according to MaxPreps.com. He also rushed for 725 yards and 12 touchdowns while leading the Knights to a 12-1 record.
Perhaps the most amazing statistic is that Devine didn’t throw an interception until the 12th game of the season.
“I had great receivers and a great O-line,” Devine said. “Even though it was our school’s toughest out-of-district and district play, we were able to keep the ball out of harm’s way.”
Devine said he was impressed with SDSU head coach Sean Lewis and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Matt Johnson.
“I chose SDSU because of the coaches and the fact that they produce great quarterbacks and great men,” Devine said. “Coach Lewis and Coach Johnson are great coaches and great leaders who have built an elite offense.
“Also, the program is built on toughness and persistence, which I loved to see and can’t wait to be a part of.”
SDSU currently has five quarterbacks on the roster, but starter Jayden Denegal and backup Bert Emanuel Jr. are seniors who will exhaust their eligibility with the 2026 season. Redshirt freshmen Stone Saunders (Kentucky) and Draiden Trudeau and true freshman Brady Campbell are the others in the SDSU quarterbacks room.
Devine is SDSU’s third Class of 2027 commit. Earlier this month, the Aztecs received a pair of commitments from Arizona in cornerback Nasim Eason (25 tackles) from Gilbert’s Higley High School and wide receiver Braxton Huynh (35 catches, 521 yards, 4 TD) from Peoria’s Liberty High School.
The recruiting cycle has sped up significantly in recent years. Last year, the Aztecs had virtually their entire 2026 class committed by the summer. Commitments can’t become official until the NCAA’s early signing period in December.
