COLLEGE STATION — Both starting pitchers were outstanding, but Texas A&M Baseball outlasted Penn with a walk-off 1-0 win in the ninth inning.

Catcher Bear Harrison drew a lead-off walk and was replaced on the base path by Sawyer Farr, who was bunted over to second by second baseman Travis Chestnut.

From there, freshman shortstop Boston Kellner slapped a game-winning double to center field.

Neither offense could get anything going for much of the night, and neither squad scored a run through the first eight innings.

Aggies’ starting pitcher Shane Sdao was stellar early in his second start of the season. The left-hander struck out six in the first three innings, throwing just 33 pitches. He maintained that dominance for seven innings, allowing no runs and just three hits, striking out seven with no walks on 86 pitches.

From there, A&M turned to right-handed reliever Ethan Darden, who pitched one inning, allowing one hit, before turning to Josh Stewart with one man on in the ninth. The right-hander struck out the first batter he faced, but a wild pitch that went to the backstop advanced the runner into scoring position.

The Quakers’ starting pitcher, Jake Moss, was excellent as well. He lasted 4⅓  innings, giving up no runs and five hits while striking out four on 92 pitches.

Next up for A&M is Saturday, as Weston Moss gets the ball in Game 2 of the series.

After Baker slapped a single to right field, A&M turned to the bullpen and brought in reliever Josh Stewart for the first time this season. Stewart struck out the first batter he faced but allowed the runner to advance to second on a wild pitch. From there, a dribbler to first advanced the Quaker’s runner to third with two outs. Stewart then induces a ground ball and gets out of the inning.

Duer slapped a one-out single that he stretched to second on a fielding error. From there, he gets stranded by a pair of groundouts by Partida and Kiel II.

Sdao let up a lead-off single, and that ended his night with Earley turning to reliever Ethan Darden. From there, the Aggies lefty struck out a batter before picking up the runner at first. He struck out Collins to end the inning.

Back-to-back flyouts from Kellner and Grahovac were followed by Sorell drawing a walk before being thrown out at second.

Smooth sailing once again for Sdao, who is putting on a pitching clinic tonight. Another 1-2-3 inning for the Aggies ace, who is up to seven strikeouts and just two hits allowed on 84 pitches.

Two pop-ups by Kiel II and Harrison led the way to Chestnut striking out to go down 1-2-3.

Sdao continues to pitch well, getting another 1-2-3 inning. Penn went down with two groundouts and one pop-up.

Jordan got on base with a one-out single. From there, a pair of strikeouts by Duer and Partida ended the threat and stranded one.

Another 1-2-3 inning for Sdao, who is through five innings of work on just 64 pitches.

With two on and two out, Kellner stepped to the plate and walked to load the bases. From there, Grahovac popped out to second to strand three.

A Baker single led off the inning for Penn. From there, Sdao forced a pair of fly-outs, and Spaventa then slapped a single, followed by a hit by pitch that loaded the bases. But Sdao got out of the jam by forcing a flyout to left field.

A Kellner strikeout was followed by a Grahovac groundout. Sorrell got to second on an E7. From there, Jordan walked to put two on. However, a dribbler to the pitcher by Duer ended the threat.

Sdao continues a great start to the outing, forcing a pop out, followed by his fifth and sixth strikeouts for a 1-2-3 inning.

Duer got the bottom of the second inning started with a base hit up the middle. From there, Partida struck out looking, while Kiel II slapped a base hit to right-center field. However, the Aggies come up empty and strand two.

Sdao starts the inning with a strikeout, then an error by Patida puts the Quakers’ first runner on. From there, Sdao records his third and fourth strikeouts of the game to end the inning.

A lead-off single by Grahovac was followed by a strike ’em out-throw ’em out to erase the initial threat.

Nice work by Sdao to start the game. He sat the first batter down with a fly-out on two pitches before striking out the two-hitter and another fly-out for a 1-2-3 inning.
