ABILENE, Texas – The UNT tennis team pushed its win streak to three consecutive matches Friday when they went on the road and took down Abilene Christian 6-1 at the Judi and Cecil Eager Tennis Pavillion.
Â
The win marked the third in just five days and the second straight on the road for North Texas as the Mean Green improved to 6-4 this season while the Wildcats dropped to 4-7. It is also the first time UNT has won back-to-back road matches in the same season since the spring of 2021.
Â
“The team showed a lot of growth this week,” head coach Amanda Stone said. “Four matches in five days was a challenge and we learned a lot from each one. I’m proud of Lou and Carolina really delivering at the top of the line up every match with such toughness and determination. It was also a big week for Lilly. She’s been great in doubles throughout and conquered some milestones today that she’s been working toward in singles. I love that we are embracing being in the trenches and really battling our way through this tough schedule.”
Â
In doubles play Lilly Schultz and Lou Chalard added another win to their ledger with a 6-2 victory at line one. With the win, the duo improved to 7-2 overall this season, already matching their win total from the 2025 and 2024 seasons.
Â
Elsewhere in doubles action, the freshman combination of Ujin Batsukh and Pia Petelinsek picked up a 6-3 win at line three to earn the doubles point for UNT.
Â
North Texas has now won the doubles point in four consecutive matches after starting the year doing so in just two of the first six matches of the season.
Â
In singles action, Chalard continued her winning streak as it swelled to five consecutive wins with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory on line one. Chalard is now 5-1 in singles play this season after earning her second line one win of the year.
Â
Shortly after, freshman Ujin Batsukh picked up a victory at line six 6-4, 6-3 to put the Mean Green one point away from the clinch. It was Batsukh’s third consecutive singles win.
Â
Team captain Carolina Laydner provided the match-clinching point for UNT at line two with a strong 6-1, 6-1 victory. The win pushed her to five singles wins this season, tied with Chalard and Petelinsek for the most on the team.
Â
Lilly Schultz was the next to win a point for the Mean Green with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at line three to make the UNT lead swell to 5-0. It was Schultz’ first career victory playing on line three or higher.
Â
After dropping the opening set in her match 6-4 at line five, Marina Adati rallied from behind to force a tiebreaker with a 6-4 win of her own in the second set. In the 10-point tiebreak, Adati again rallied after falling behind 4-1 early to win the tiebreak 10-7 and push the final score to 6-1 in favor of North Texas.
Â
After playing four matches in a matter of five days this week, UNT will take a full week off before returning to action Friday, Feb. 27th when they welcome Texas State to the Waranch Tennis Complex at 3:00 PM.
