Role Overview
This position is a hands‑on operational leadership role responsible for supporting daily activities within a bank’s retail and back‑office functions. The Assistant Manager works closely with the department lead to maintain smooth operations, ensuring all transaction‑related tasks, exception handling, and research items are completed with accuracy, efficiency, and regulatory alignment.
The role involves guiding a team of operations specialists, serving as a go‑to resource for escalations, and partnering with internal groups and external clients. It’s well‑suited for someone who enjoys fast‑moving environments, collaborative problem‑solving, and delivering a consistently strong client experience.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and mentor a team focused on operational processing, accuracy, and continuous improvement Translate departmental goals into clear expectations and actionable direction Manage daily workloads, ensuring deadlines and compliance requirements are met Act as an escalation resource for staff, customers, and internal partners Oversee a broad range of transaction processing with a focus on precision and regulatory adherence Support both traditional consumer banking products and newer digital‑asset‑related offerings Maintain imaging standards and ensure high‑quality documentation Review and resolve complex exceptions, returned items, and decision‑based tasks Conduct account research and coordinate with branches/back‑office teams on item retrieval and processing issues Handle manual cash letters and items that require non‑standard posting Prioritize and shift between competing operational needs as business demands change Develop and update procedures, reference materials, and process documentation Apply structured problem‑solving to operational challenges while maintaining client‑centric service Manage small‑scale projects from initiation through closure, providing updates and documentation as needed
Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of retail banking operations, regulatory standards, and branch‑level procedures Demonstrated success leading and developing operational teams Strong orientation toward risk management, quality control, and process improvement Ability to perform under pressure while maintaining a high level of accuracy 7+ years of experience in banking operations or related supervisory roles Solid proficiency in Excel, Word, and online systems Experience using banking platforms and the ability to quickly learn new applications Strong analytical capabilities and sound decision‑making judgment Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
