While the Cowboys really need to make changes, more specifically in the leadership of the team, I can’t do anything about that. My goal with this article is to mock all seven rounds of the pick and add some talent to their core. If they don’t correct their defensive woes, they are going to have a hard time winning their own division, let alone a playoff game. My biggest team needs, in order, are: EDGE, Safety, Linebacker, Cornerback (let’s be honest, defensive help is critical), and then some offensive line depth. Even after the trade for Kenny Clark, I think they could look to get his cap number down or potentially cut him, and then need another interior player on defense.

Note: Teams inevitably trade draft picks during the draft; I will not be. I’m standing pat and selecting based on how the roster will look today, so no free agency either.

2026 Dallas Cowboys: Overview

Thanks to our friends at Spotrac, here’s an overview of their current cap situation, and it’s not looking great. There’s a lot of work for the front office to do before we get to the draft. They also have to decide on George Pickens (and presumably bring him back as priority #1).

The Cowboys currently have eight picks, and they could stand pat, but day two is looking pretty thin, so I presume they look to move around. With two first-round picks, they have ammunition to make some things happen during the draft weekend.

RECAP

I expect them to double up on a position, probably safety or corner, but I leaned toward safety because of the players on the board. Styles is a tall, speedy sideline-to-sideline backer that I think they were looking for when they added Kenneth Murray. Styles is a sure tackler, can cover well, and really would be a huge upgrade to any of the players currently in that linebacker room. TJ Parker could be a day one starter who knows how to cause fumbles and has a high football IQ. Another player I think is probably the best edge rusher as soon as he enters the room.

After their first two, there are a lot of guys with potential who probably start as depth to begin their careers. Muhammad I love because of his versatility as a corner, I think you could see him play inside or outside, and he has great size/speed for the position. Campbell never really reached his potential, but I still think he has some tools to develop into an interior lineman at the next level. Campbell is definitely better in the run game to start, but if he can improve as a pass protector, now they’d be cooking!

Fitzgerald and Nwankpa are very fast, but I think Fitzgerald is a better ball-hawking safety, whereas I think Nwankpa is better in coverage. Both are definitely intriguing, and I think they could develop into starters in time. Harris is a massive human being with long arms and immense strength. Gyllenborg, to round out their draft class, is a player who could start on special teams and be depth that doesn’t need to start anytime soon. He’s more of an athletic pass-catching tight end, and it’s really the way the league’s going these days.
