A teenager was fatally shot in an Arlington home while a group of teens “were handling a weapon and pointing it at one another,” police said.

ARLINGTON, Texas — A teenage boy was shot and killed while a group of teenagers “were handling a weapon and pointing it at one another” in an Arlington home, police said.

The Arlington Police Department said officers responded to a shooting call Friday night at a home on Sausalito Drive, near W. Arkansas Lane and Little Road. When officers got to the home, they found the teenage boy had suffered a gunshot wound. The boy died at the scene despite emergency efforts to save him, Arlington police said.

Arlington PD said their preliminary investigation found that the victim and other teens got the firearm while inside the home, and evidence suggested the teens were handling the weapon and pointing it at one another when it was discharged, striking the victim.

The teenage boy who fired the weapon was arrested and charged with manslaughter, police said. He was taken the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center, according to APD.

Arlington police said the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, including trying to figure out how the weapon was accessed. Police said they would not be releasing the identity of the victim.

More information about the shooting will be shared at a later date, APD said.Â
