Following the incident, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez released this statement:

Early this morning, deputies responded to a burglary call in the Aldine area that quickly escalated into a dangerous and rapidly evolving situation.

Upon arrival, an armed suspect opened fire on deputies. They returned fire. Thankfully, no deputies were injured.

The suspect fled and forced entry into a nearby trailer home where a family — including young children — was inside. What began as a business burglary became a barricaded suspect situation with innocent lives at risk.

Our deputies acted swiftly, decisively, and with remarkable restraint. After securing the adult occupants, they made entry to safely remove the children and take the suspect into custody.

I am incredibly proud of the professionalism, courage, and teamwork displayed by our deputies in the face of gunfire and uncertainty. Their priority remained clear: protect innocent lives and bring the situation to a safe resolution.

That is exactly what they did.
