OREM, Utah — Kira Reynolds scored a team-high 17 points, but UT Arlington women’s basketball (10-17, 4-11 WAC) couldn’t overcome a dominant third quarter from Utah Valley (13-12, 6-8 WAC) as the Lady Mavericks fell 77-60 Saturday at the UCCU Center.

UT Arlington carried the early momentum, taking an 18-16 lead after one quarter and building a 35-31 advantage at the half. The turning point came out of the break, as Utah Valley erupted for 27 third-quarter points while holding UTA to seven in the frame to take a 58-42 lead into the final 10 minutes.

UTA battled in the fourth, scoring 18 points and knocking down three triples, but the Wolverines’ cushion proved too large to erase.

Reynolds finished with 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting and went a perfect 3-of-3 at the free-throw line. Kali Haizlip and Laura Bello added nine points each, with Bello pulling down a team-high six rebounds. Alexsyah Goudeau chipped in eight points and a team-best six assists.

UTA shot 45.1% (23-of-51) from the field and 46.2% (6-of-13) from three-point range, but 27 turnovers led to 24 Utah Valley points off giveaways, as the Wolverines recorded 17 steals on the afternoon.

Utah Valley was paced by Amanda Barcello’s game-high 25 points, including six 3-pointers, while Halle Nelson posted 17 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists. Cambree Blackham added 16 points, going 8-of-10 at the line.

NOTEWORTHY

UTA led 35-31 at halftime before being outscored 27-7 in the third quarter.
Haizlip hit three 3-pointers, helping the Lady Mavs shoot 46.2% from deep.
Goudeau dished out six assists, while Bello grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
