The Arlington community is grieving the loss of a 14-year-old who was fatally shot.
Arlington police said officers were called to a home in the 4600 block of Sausalito Drive around 10:30 p.m. Friday night for reports of a shooting.
When they arrived, officers found Riley Jordan, 14, unresponsive in a bedroom. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said evidence suggests multiple juveniles were handling a gun and pointing it at one another prior to the shooting.
Officers arrested a teenage boy in the room and charged him with one count of manslaughter.
Arlington police are not releasing his identity due to his age, but say he was taken to the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center.
The investigation remains ongoing and police have not said how the teenagers came into possession of the gun.
Through their heartbreak, the Jordan family shared photos and memories of Riley. The freshman at Arlington Martin would have turned 15 in a few days.
The Jordan family released the following statement:
“Riley was truly a blessing to everyone who knew him. He lived with an undeniable passion for football, music and working out – pursuits that fueled his energy and brought him so much joy.
Above all, he loved his family and friends unconditionally, with a loyalty and warmth that touched every heart he met.
Riley had an incredible gift for lighting up any room the moment he walked in, his smile and spirit instantly lifting those around him. He will be deeply and forever missed by all of us who were fortunate enough to share in his light.”
Arlington Martin’s principal shared a letter with parents Saturday announcing the death of a student, writing, in part:
“Our hearts are with the student’s family and loved ones, and with every student and staff member who is hurting today.”
The principal said grief counselors would be made available to students on Monday and encouraged parents to check in with their children and encourage them to seek help if they were struggling.
