On Friday night, the Grateful Dead tribute project DeadEye headlined a hometown show at Austin, TX’s 29th Street Ballroom. Nashville-area based guitarist Daniel Donato was in the Live Music Capital of the World for a performance with his Cosmic Country combo at Emo’s and stopped by DeadEye’s show after his concert for a surprise sit in. The guitarist, who has performed with Phil Lesh, Bob Weir and Bill Kreutzmann, as well as a mix of Grateful Dead-related projects, emerged for classics “Dark Star,” “Greatest Story Ever Told,” “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo” and “Sugar Magnolia.” On the latter selection, Donato even shared vocals with another special guest, singer Erin Stein.
DeadEye will play a family-friendly Rock and Roll Playhouse set at Austin’s 3TEN Austin City Limits Live this morning while Donato will appear at Oklahoma City, OK’s Tower Theatre with Cosmic Country this evening.
