SAN MARCOS, Texas – Brown softball (1-4) lost 10-2 in six innings to Texas State to close out the weekend at the River State Classic on Sunday (Feb. 22).

Elli Thompson hit Brown’s first home run of the season with a two-run shot in the top of the sixth.

Amanda Deng, Maya Choksi and Lily Berlinger all collected hits for the Bears.

Edie Cobb (0-3) threw five innings for Brown, surrendering eight runs and striking out four.

Texas State scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third off an error and a bases loaded walk made it 2-0. The Bobcats added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and added a run in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.

With two outs in the top of the sixth, Deng doubled down the left field line to keep the inning alive. Thompson then stepped to the plate and drove a shot over the left field wall for her first home run of the season.

Texas State plated five runs in the bottom of the sixth to close out the game.

UP NEXT

Brown will be off until making their next trip to Jacksonville, Fla., for five games from March 6-8.
