Lubbock County commissioners to discuss amendments to game room ordinance

  • February 23, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Lubbock County commissioners are set to discuss proposed amendments to the county’s game room ordinance on Monday.

One proposed change reworks the civil penalties for game rooms that violate the ordinance. In addition to the district attorney’s ability to sue for an injunction against a game room, the proposal adds a civil penalty of up to $10,000 per violation.

The proposal also states the county is entitled to recover reasonable expenses incurred while obtaining injunctive relief and civil penalties, including court costs.

District attorney’s office responds

Neal Burt, Civil Division Chief, said game room operators have responded positively to existing regulations.

“We actually have had a very positive response from the game room operators, many of them have indicated to us that they want to run an above-board legal operation and we hope that that improves their business as well, by containing some of that negative element that has not been regulated up to this point in time,” Burt said.

The District Attorney’s Office said rules already in place are helping alleviate some of the crime and issues at the rooms.

Lubbock County commissioners are scheduled to discuss the amendments Monday morning.
