EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) – Jasmine Crockett hosted a community conversation event Sunday afternoon at Destiny Church in Northeast El Paso, to bring her message to voters in West Texas ahead of the Democratic primary.

She is currently in a close race for Texas Senate against Texas State Rep. James Talarico, who visited El Paso on Saturday as a part of his “Take Back Texas” tour.

Crockett told attendees that she believes that the nation is currently in a modern-day civil rights movement.

Right now, it seems there is a lot of evil that is stirring in the world. And I feel a lot of it that is raining down on us is coming directly from our own federal government.

At the event, she also addressed the recent closure of the El Paso International Airport airspace, citing a lack of communication from the federal level.

“There’s always a consistent concern over cartels and their use of drones, so why are we building a wall?” Crockett said. “There is a lack of communication when it comes to communication on the top, that’s why your airspace will shut down.”

Jasmine Crockett was voted into Congress in 2022 as the United States Representative for Texas’s 30th congressional district and is now running her campaign for Senate on issues such as affordability, criminal justice reform, immigration reform, and border security as she continues to tour across Texas.

According to Crockett’s campaign website, she aims to increase accountability and accessibility for whatever office she holds.

“I’m running for the United States Senate because I believe Texas deserves a Senator who will be an independent voice for all 30 million Texans – not a rubber stamp or party line vote for Donald Trump,” Crockett states on her website.

Early voting for the March 2026 primary election will conclude on Feb. 27
