Late game success helps TCU men’s basketball beat West Virginia

TCU went on a 12-2 run in the last four minutes to get a 60-54 win against West Virginia.

Liutauras Lelevicius got the Frogs started, scoring 14 points in the First half and shooting 3-3 from three, helping TCU get out to a 30-25 lead at halftime.

Going into the under-eight-minute media timeout, the Horned Frogs would be down 49-43, finding themselves in another close game.

West Virginia would call a timeout after TCU scores on three of the first four possessions coming out of the media timeout, cutting the West Virginia lead down to one.

The Mountaineers made a three-pointer coming out of a timeout, but the Horned Frogs would respond with an 8-0 run giving The Frogs a 56-52 lead with 1:36 remaining in the game.

Brenen Lorient made a layup with 25 seconds to bring the game to two points. West Virginia would start to foul TCU, who was already in the double bonus.

Brock Harding and Jayden Pierre both went to the free-throw line in the last 25 seconds after being fouled. Harding and Pierre both went 2 for 2 from the free-throw line to close out the game.

TCU held West Virginia to two points in the last five minutes and 42 seconds of the game.

West Virginia was considered a bubble team for the NCAA tournament and is among the next four out in Joe Lunardi’s Feb. 20 bracketology.

After the win, Joe Lunardi projects TCU to be one of the last four teams in the NCAA tournament.

Jamie Dixon said he hopes this win will help TCU move off the bubble, but understands the Horned Frogs need to keep winning.

TCU now looks forward to facing Arizona State at home on Feb. 24. The game will be at 8 p.m. on CBSSN.
