Authorities say a fire near Sunset Island prompted a large response as windy, dry conditions raised concerns.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Emergency crews are responding to a reported fire near the JFK Causeway early Monday morning, where witnesses say flames were visible from a distance.

The fire was reported near marker 37, close to the exit for Sunset Island, an area that includes a marina and nearby fuel pumps, raising concerns about potential hazards. Viewer reports and on-scene observations confirmed a heavy police and fire presence moving across the bridge toward the island.

Officials on scene included police officers and firefighters with the Corpus Christi Fire Department, who were actively working to get the fire under control.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact source or extent of the fire.

Strong winds associated with a cold front and extremely dry air conditions were described as significant factors complicating firefighting efforts.

Crews remained focused on containment as conditions continued to challenge operations.

Details remain limited, and officials have not reported any injuries.

Emergency responders are expected to remain on scene as the situation develops. Use caution and avoid the area.
