Estacado Lady Matadors (16-17, 7-5)

  • February 23, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Estacado Lady Matadors (16-17, 7-5) are the Hoop Madness Team of the Week after clinching not just Bi-District Champions but Area Champions as well.

The Lady Matadors took on #8 Brownwood in the opening round of the playoffs and knocked them off with a buzzer beater by Azariah Reed to push them on to the Area round of the playoffs, winning 48-46.

Estacado then went on to face Burkburnett in the Area round, the same team that knocked them out last season in the same exact round – but this time they got their revenge, winning comfortably 46-27 to clinch Area Champions.

The Lady Matadors started off the season not how they may have wanted to with a lot of athletes finishing their seasons in other sports, but quickly turned things around, hanging their hats on their defensive game knowing that it will translate into offense. Since January 20th , Estacado has only dropped two games absolutely dominating in their wins.

Up next, the Estacado Lady Matadors have the #2 Canyon in the Regional Semi-finals. The Lady Eagles sit at 29-2 overall with a 14-0 district record coming off two playoff wins over Andrews 67-27 and Riverside 88-25. But head coach Jay January and his team know they have so much more gas in the tank and want to go show everyone what Estacado Lady Matador basketball is all about.
