LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – On Monday, DPS says a Trooper was shot near Big Spring and flown to Lubbock for treatment.
DPS says The Texas Rangers are now investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred just before 1:00 a.m., in the 500 block of Westover near the Westover Hills Apartments in Big Spring.
Officials say the Trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation.
The vehicle did not stop, and the Trooper performed a PIT maneuver; however, the vehicle drove into the bushes, and two suspects evaded on foot.
During the foot pursuit, one of the suspects fired shots, striking the Trooper, and the Trooper returned fire.
DPS says currently, one suspect is dead, and the other suspect has not been apprehended.
The DPS Trooper sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a Lubbock area hospital, where they are listed in stable condition.
No residents at the West Hills Apartments were injured.
Anyone with information regarding the identity of the second suspect is urged to contact the Big Spring Police Department at (432) 264-2550 or the Texas Department of Public Safety at (432) 498-2130.
The investigation is being conducted with the assistance of the Big Spring Police Department and the Howard County Sheriff’s Office.
