TEXAS — According to a study from WalletHub, Texas has four cities in the top 10 places in the country that have the most people experiencing financial distress.
Houston is the top Texas city, at No. 2 on the list, with Dallas, San Antonio and Austin coming in at Nos. 4, 6 and 9, respectively.
The study looked at the top 100 largest cities in the country across nine key metrics. Those included average credit score, changes in bankruptcy filings between 2024 and 2025 and the percentage of people whose accounts were found to be in distress.
On a state level, Texas ranked No. 1 in the same study.
The city with the highest level of financial distress is Chicago, with Las Vegas at No. 3. Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta and Phoenix round out the whole of the top 10.
The city with the least number of people in financial distress in the top 100 was Anchorage, Alaska.
WalletHub has several suggestions for how people could make their way out of financial hardship, including debt consolidation and careful budgeting.
