RUSK, Texas — Cherokee County is now under a burn ban following a threat of large wildfires in the region.

Cherokee County Judge Chris Davis declared a state of disaster Monday. Officials said the declaration will continue for seven days, after which it will need to be continued with authorization from the Cherokee County Commissioners Court.

According to the declaration, the purpose of the order is to mitigate the hazard posed by wildfires by curtailing outdoor burning.
