SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A 61-year-old man was taken into custody Monday morning after a reported suicide threat led to a barricade situation in a Northwest Bexar County neighborhood.

Deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched around 7:57 a.m. on February 23 to a home in the 12000 block of Silver Lining after a 911 caller reported that a man had possibly shot himself.

When deputies arrived, they identified the man as Robert Roy Nugent, 61. Authorities determined he had not suffered a gunshot wound, but he refused to cooperate and barricaded himself inside the residence.

Investigators later learned that before deputies arrived, Nugent had fired a gunshot into the ceiling of the home.

As a precaution, several nearby homes were evacuated during the standoff, and two nearby schools were placed in ‘Secure Status.’

Due to the nature of the situation, the Sheriff’s Office deployed its Crisis Negotiation Team, SWAT unit, and Mental Health Unit. Nugent surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
