PFLUGERVILLE, Texas — The Travis County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting involving an off-duty Austin Police Department officer that took place Friday evening.
The incident occurred at a barbershop on the 1700 block of Crystal Bend Drive, where multiple 911 calls were received just after 6 p.m. reporting gunfire and a shooting victim, according to a press release from the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies found an adult male deceased with gunshot wounds at the scene. Another individual, who also sustained a gunshot wound, was found at a nearby residence and transported to a local hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.
Preliminary investigations by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office revealed that a man entered the barbershop and began shooting at patrons and employees. An employee was shot and fled to a nearby residence for help. An off-duty Austin Police Department officer present at the barbershop returned fire, fatally striking the suspect.
The suspect has been identified as Jefferson Josue Rodas, of Pflugerville, Texas. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, stated the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.
