Medicare Mondays with Mackenzie: Emergency room coverage under Medicare
On “We Are Austin,” Mackenzie Anderson of Premier Medicare Solutions joined Trevor Scott to help break down what Medicare typically covers in emergency situations and what can lead to unexpected expenses.
The discussion focused on what happens if someone has a true emergency and goes to the emergency room, including whether that care is always covered under Medicare. It also addressed whether the cost of the same emergency visit can differ from plan to plan, and what steps people can take before an emergency happens to avoid surprise costs.
“Your cost can be different if you have a Medicare supplement plan, Medigap plan, or a Medicare Advantage plan,” said Anderson. “So it’s always important to know what the costs are and what your potential charges would be.”
Other key questions included whether Medicare covers ambulance rides and whether there are situations in which urgent care is not covered.
