Kayce Dutton returns to the small screen this weekend.
It’s been more than 14 months since viewers last saw Kayce in the much-delayed back half of “Yellowstone” season 5. There, Kayce sells most of Dutton Ranch but keeps East Camp for himself and his immediate family.
Now, Luke Grimes is reprising his role as Kayce in “Marshals” on CBS.
🔥 In case you missed it…
In the show, Kayce leaves the ranch to join the U.S. Marshals. As an ex-Navy Seal, Kayce will use his military and cowboy skills to fight crime in Montana, according to the show’s description.
Here’s what to know about the show.
What kind of show is ‘Marshals?’
“Marshals” is described as a procedural, which means each episode will be its own adventure.
Furthermore, procedurals are shows that introduce a problem and solve it all within the same episode. Think the “case of the week” style in other CBS shows like “NCIS” or “Tracker.”
This will be different from “Yellowstone,” which had a more overarching plot throughout its seasons.
Will ‘Marshals’ include other ‘Yellowstone’ characters?
Yes, at least a few characters.
Gil Birmingham and Mo Brings Plenty are back as Thomas Rainwater and Mo, respectively. Brecken Merrill is also back as Kayce’s son Tate.
Its unclear is Kelsey Asbille will reprise her role as Kayce’s wife Monica in the show.
Several of the executive producers behind “Yellowstone” are also back on board for “Marshals,” including Taylor Sheridan, David Glasser, Art Linson and John Linson. Spencer Hudnut serves as showrunner and executive producer on the show.
“Marshals” also stars Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos and Tatanka Means. Country music singer Riley Green will guest star in the show.
“Piya Wiconi” — Kayce Dutton reunites with an old SEAL teammate and aids his Marshal unit in hunting down a bomber targeting Broken Rock Reservation. Fred Hayes CBS Where did ‘Marshals’ film?
Production took place in Utah over the summer and fall months last year.
The filming location is a homecoming of sorts for the show, since “Yellowstone” filmed much of its first three seasons in the Beehive State before moving to Montana.
Why is ‘Marshals’ on CBS?
Most of Taylor Sheridan’s shows either released on the Paramount Network or Paramount+. However, “Marshals” will air on CBS.
This is simply because the network picked up the show for release. All three entities are also under same umbrella of Paramount Skydance.

“Marshals” premieres on March 1.
The show will release new episodes weekly on Sundays at 7 p.m. Variety previously reported that the first season of “Marshals” will consist of 13 episodes, but there has not been official confirmation from CBS.
