EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 52-year-old woman was arrested Monday after authorities accused her of making a false report regarding a man breaking into her home and assaulting her.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, on Sept. 9, Maribel Wong allegedly called law enforcement to report that a man had forced his way into her home at the 900 block of Stamfordham Drive (near Horizon City) and assaulted her.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that investigators poked around the area and watched surveillance video, but didn’t find any evidence of Wong’s story.

Furthermore, after more digging, detectives said they started finding inconsistencies between the Wong’s story and newly discovered evidence, which included text messages Wong claimed the suspect had sent her– text messages detectives believe Wong herself wrote.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, detectives then confronted Wong about it and she allegedly admitted to making the whole thing up.

As a result, on Oct. 21, over a month after her initial report, Wong was arrested and charged with false report to a peace officer with a bond set at $4,000.

According to jail records, Wong was booked into the El Paso County Downtown Jail, but was released the very next day after posting a personal recognizance bond.
