A man was hit by a driver while crossing the roadway early Tuesday, according to law enforcement.

AUSTIN, Texas — One person is dead after a hit-and-run early Tuesday morning in Downtown Austin. 

According to Austin police, a man was crossing the 7200 block of South Congress Avenue when he was hit by a driver not far from William Cannon Drive. The victim died on scene but has not been identified. 

All lanes of South Congress Avenue are closed to traffic as a result of the collision. The roadway is expected to be shut for several hours and it’s unclear exactly when it will reopen to drivers. 

The driver of the vehicle has not been named, and no additional details are available at this time.
