The Truth Behind Lubbock’s Work Ethic
I guess everything is about averages, because I certainly see people in Lubbock working day in and day out that are bustin’ rear. I can’t even understand how those Texas Department of Transportation crews get out there on the asphalt during those 100+ degree scorchers. On the other end of the labor spectrum, I know there are doctors who work clinics, hospitals, and more (and are also on call). Yup — we have a workforce here that absolutely gets after it.
How Wallethub Ranked “Hardest Working Cities 2026”
That brings us to Wallethub’s latest survey: “The Hardest Working Cities 2026.”
Out of 116 entrants, Lubbock placed #50, landing us just above the middle of the pack. Honestly, that’s a pretty respectable finish.
Here’s how the scoring works:
They examined Direct Work Factors such as Average Workweek and Unused Vacation Hours. Then they added Indirect Work Factors like Average Commute Time and the Share of Workers With Multiple Jobs. There were additional metrics baked into both categories, but you get the idea.

What about you? Do you really work hard? Well, I wouldn’t dispute your claim either way — not my place. I’m just a silly morning-show air personality and writer, and by the time I get home I am 100% mentally spent.
