TEXAS — Waymo will expand its operations into Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Orlando, the company announced in a news release on Tuesday.
Rides will be selectively offered to users in these cities who have downloaded the Waymo app. New users will be invited to use Waymo’s services on a rolling basis, to make the transition into these cities more successful, the company said.
The service is expected to be available for everyone in these cities by the end of the year.
“Dallas is excited for Waymo to launch operations in our city, providing Dallas residents and visitors with new, innovative transportation options,” said Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson in a statement. “The availability of Waymo’s fully autonomous ride service further cements Dallas’s reputation as one of America’s most innovative and dynamic cities. Together, we are putting public safety first while building a more connected city.”
Waymo’s expansion comes at a time when approximately 60% of U.S. drivers report being afraid to ride in self-driving cars, according to data from the American Automobile Association.
The company said in the announcement that it will prioritize safety in order to build trust.
“Waymo is serving more riders than ever, as we are on track to serve over one million rides per week by the end of this year,” co-CEO of Waymo, Tekedra Mawakana, said in the release.
Tuesday’s expansion increases the total commercial metropolitan areas Waymo serves to 10. Waymo currently operates in Austin, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Atlanta.
Waymo began testing its autonomous vehicles in Austin beginning in 2024, and in 2025, the company partnered with Uber to make rides available through the Uber app. At the end of 2025, Waymo voluntarily recalled more than 3,000 vehicles in its Austin fleet following dozens of violations with school buses.
