The City of Dallas Office of Arts & Culture is now accepting applications for a public art project to be featured within the Preston Royal Branch Library (5626 Royal Ln.). The distinctive mid-century building, opened in 1964, is currently undergoing redesign and renovation. This project is envisioned as a means to “reflect the deep appreciation residents feel for the library and the learning opportunities it has provided to their families across generations.”
Both solo artists and artist teams are invited to apply; all applicants must be at least 18 years of age with professional fine art qualifications. In broad strokes, project organizers seek plans for a sculpture or floor mosaic with interactive features (excluding play structures). Additional guidelines include:
Innovative, highly visible, and visually compelling
Spark curiosity in viewers of all ages tempting them to engage
Respond to our community survey and be site-specific
Be of professional quality and enhance the Dallas Public Art Collection at world-class standard
Stand up to the elements, require minimal maintenance and be resistant to graffiti and vandalism
Have an expected life span of 20+ years
Be free of safety hazards (no sharp or loose objects)
A budget of $84,000 is available, and applications must be received by March 2, 2026. Thereafter, a panel of arts professionals and community representatives will select three artists to present their concept designs for final consideration. Click here for full details and application.
