While El Paso is expected to hit temperature lows in the mid-50s by the weekend, some nearby areas will experience winter-like conditions, like in Cloudcroft, where temperatures are expected to reach near freezing on Saturday, Oct. 25. Las Cruces is forecasted to drop into the high-40’s over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperature lows in El Paso are typically in the 50s on average for most of October, with lows cooling into the 40s late into the month, especially by Halloween, according data by the National Weather Service.

When does El Paso experience its first freeze?

On average, El Paso experiences its first freeze (32 degrees or less) by Nov. 15, and its first hard freeze (28 degrees or less) by Nov. 24.

Parts of Southern New Mexico drop below freezing much earlier, with Cloudcroft falling below 32 degrees by Sept. 27, on average.

How cold will it get in El Paso this winter?

El Paso and parts of New Mexico are favored to be warmer-than-average for the winter months, according to a seasonal outlook released by the National Weather Service on Oct. 16.
