AUSTIN – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros baseball team fell to the No. 3 Texas Longhorns 14-0 in seven innings on Tuesday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
 
Juniors Rocco Garza Gongora and Chayton Fischer and senior Hank Warren each reached base twice for the Vaqueros (3-5) by recording a hit and a walk. Senior Thomas Williams also had a hit.
 
Aiden Robbins homered off graduate student Colton Vercoe (0-2) with two outs in the first to put the Longhorns (8-0) up 1-0.
 
In the second, the Longhorns put runners at second and third with two outs, setting up an RBI-single by Andrew Ermis. Ethan Mendoza followed by hitting a dribbler up the third base line that brought home another run to make the score 3-0.
 
In the third, Ashton Larson hit a two-out RBI-single to put the Longhorns up 4-0.
 
In the fifth, Anthony Pack Jr. walked, stole second, and scored on an Ermis single. Later in the inning, Robbins hit a two-out RBI-single and Carson Tinney hit a two-run home run to make the score 8-0.
 
In the sixth, Adrian Rodriguez led off with a double and scored on a Robbins single. One out later, the Longhorns loaded the bases, setting up an RBI-single by Temo Becerra, a two-run double by Pack, and an RBI-single by Presley Courville. Pack then scored on a wild pitch to make the score 14-0.
 
That made a winner of Sam Cozart (1-0), who started and pitched 4.0 scoreless innings of 1-hit ball, striking out eight while walking three.
 
UTRGV opens Southland Conference play with the first of three at Lamar on Friday at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
