SAN ANTONIO, Tx — San Antonio’s largest school district has voted to close three elementary schools. Judson ISD voted 5-2 to close Ed Franz Leadership Academy, Park Village Blended Learning Academy and Rolling Meadows Elementary.

When it was announced that Rolling Meadows Elementary would be one of the three schools closing their doors next school year cries were heard throughout the boardroom. Allie Rohm who attends Rolling Meadows Elementary said she is going to miss her friends.

“My school just closed and I didn’t think it was going to happen,” Allie Rohm said. “I really liked Rolling Meadows because everyone was nice and now, we’re going to have to move schools.”

Allie’s mother, Laura Rohm who teaches at Rolling Meadows Elementary is also heartbroken.

“I’m looking at my children here and I don’t know what I’m going to tell my students in the morning when I have students looking forward to going back to school,” Laura Rohm said. “Now I have to say that can’t happen.”

Judson ISD Board President Monica Ryan says the decision to close the schools was a hard, but necessary decision to budget the district’s $37 million budget shortfall. The district estimates they will save $1.5 million per elementary school closed.
