The Fort Worth Transportation & Public Works Department announced this week that it won multiple awards at the 2026 American Public Works Association (APWA) Public Works Workshop.

The event, which was held in February in Fort Worth, recognized exceptional public works employees from cities across the country. According to the press release announcement, Fort Worth public works team took home five different awards, including:

Management Innovation Award – Stormwater Operations Dashboard

The award is for innovative management practices improving efficiency and service delivery. The city’s Stormwater Operations Dashboard was developed to track stormwater asset growth and inventory counts to support stormwater operations.

Project of the Year – Structures Category – Concrete Team

The Concrete Team won this category for its work on rehabilitation and preservation of municipal buildings and parks by demonstrating excellence in design, construction, and long-term community benefit.

Field Excellence Award – Paul Olea

Paul Olea was honored with the Field Excellence Award, which recognizes individuals who significantly impact public services and environmental protection. The award speaks to Olea’s exceptional customer service, innovation on the job, and noteworthy achievements resulting in increased productivity and cost savings.

Equipment Operator of the Year – Jimmy Kersey

Jimmy Kersey earned the distinction of Equipment Operator of the Year for outstanding performance, precision, and commitment to safety. Those efforts set a high standard for professionalism and reliability in the field.

Roadeo Competition – Kevin Stone (Second place, Zero Turn Competition)

And Kevin Stone represented the department in the Zero Turn Competition. Stone came in second, showcasing technical skill, focus, and competitive spirit while going up against peers from across the region.

“These honors reflect not only individual achievement but also the collective commitment of the entire department to innovation, service, and operational excellence,” the press release states. “Each award underscores TPW’s mission to provide high-quality public works services while continuously improving how they serve our residents.”
