The Austin Police Department is investigating a Saturday shooting death in Northeast Austin as the city’s 10th homicide of the year.

According to a Tuesday press release, officers responded to a call about a shooting at 1400 E. Rundberg Lane at approximately 3:05 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, they located a male victim near a dumpster suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and initiated life-saving measures.

The victim, who has not yet been identified but is estimated to be in his 40s, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene nine minutes later. A preliminary investigation conducted by Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists indicates that the victim was shot and killed by an unknown suspect who then fled the scene.

A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for any information that leads to an arrest in the case.

The city’s ninth homicide of 2026 also happened in the Rundberg area. After midnight on Feb. 15, one person was killed in a shooting outside the Gus Garcia Recreation Center, which is located at 1201 Rundberg Lane.

In that case, detectives said 32-year-old Jamal Elijah and a second male victim (who survived) were confronted by a suspect group and shot. The department is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in that case as well.
