Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is recommending that the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) not grant Camp Mystic a new camping license, according to a letter posted on X.
The camp near Hunt, Texas, saw 27 campers and counselors die in Fourth of July floods last year. In the post, Patrick said that he does not feel comfortable sending his grandchildren to the camp given those events, and that they should have suspended operations until the investigation was finished.

As Mayra Flores competes in the March 3 primary, her Republican Party appears to have moved on. She’s struggling to raise money, and Trump has endorsed rival candidate Eric Flores, a lawyer and political newcomer who isn’t related despite the same last name.
The Flores v. Flores competition has become a tense and personal confrontation between two young Hispanic conservatives who exemplify their community’s rightward shift. Whoever wins will be among the most closely watched Republicans in the state, responsible for defeating Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, a Democrat who has long been a top target. Texas’ recent redistricting was designed in part to make Gonzalez easier to defeat.
3. Dallas City Hall faces uncertain future amid costly repairs
The fate of Dallas City Hall is now up in the air after a report came out Friday detailing the costs to fix its issues and upgrade the 48-year-old building.
According to the report, a full renovation to this iconic 1970s building could come with a $1 billion dollar price tag.
