SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Five people have been arrested and charged in connection with the 2024 killing of a Shreveport teen in Arlington, Texas.
According to CBS, five people are being charged with capital murder in connection with the double shooting that left Dayton Allen, 19, of Shreveport, and his girlfriend, Alexis Tyler, 18, dead.
The people who have been arrested are:
Chrisaveon Whitted, 18Eddie Walker Jr., 19Demarian Owens, 21Shannon Steele, 20Diamond Curttie, 26
Whitted, Walker, and Owens were arrested Wednesday, June 18 in north Texas and transferred to the Tarrant County Jail, CBS reports. Steele was already in jail in Dallas County for an unrelated charge, CBS says. And Curttie was arrested by police in Dallas Thursday, June 19.
CBS says surveillance footage linked Curttie to the crime. Also seen on camera were four other people getting out of a white Ford Fusion in the parking lot of the apartment wearing hoodies and carrying a large, heavy bag. Minutes after they showed up, gunshots were heard, CBS says. All five suspects left the scene in the Fusion, which was later tracked in Dallas using GPS. According to CBS, police say they were able to confirm the Fusion was at the scene during the deadly shooting.
CBS says witnesses also saw the five people leave the scene shortly after the shooting.
Family reportedly told police Allen may have been involved in some kind of fight about money with the suspects. Investigators support this claim, according to CBS.
The killings happened while Allen and his girlfriend were celebrating his birthday. He was hours away from turning 20 when he was killed. Family members say he was shot more than 30 times.

Ebony Allen, Dayton’s mother, tells KSLA the couple was celebrating what would have been Dayton’s 20th birthday. Sadly, the celebration ended when they were both gunned down in the living room a short-term rental apartment just outside of Dallas.
“They said Day Day, and everything in me fell apart. The pain I felt is indescribable,” she said.
Dayton attended Fair Park Middle School where he played basketball. After getting his GED, he continued playing the sport with the Red River Eagles basketball team.
“The last conversation we had, he was telling me ‘coach, I’m going to call you back.’ Still today, I’m waiting for that phone call,” Dexter Jackson said.
Dayton’s mother describes him as a ray of sunshine. She says she doesn’t believe the shooting was targeted.

“My son was not a violent person at all. He had no enemies. Everyone loved Day Day.”
