A taqueria in Hurst decided to repeat its feat of creating the biggest burger in Dallas-Fort Worth and has now launched what its owner claims is the biggest hot dog in the Metroplex.
El Reyno Taqueria has done it again and now presents a new challenge for its customers: its mega hot dog, which measures 2 feet and weighs 6 pounds, a dish that defies the logic of American cuisine not only because of its size, but also because of its contents.
“When I was little, we always went to eat hot dogs at street stands in Monterrey,” said José “Joe” Reyna, owner of El Reyno Taquería. “That’s where the idea to make this hot dog came from.”
The monstrous dish is not just a bun with sausage. In addition to the bun, which is made especially for this business, it has four grilled links stuffed with cheese, trompo meat — the same they use for their trompo tacos — bacon, pineapple, cheese sauce, and jalapeño peppers. All of that is accompanied by a generous serving of fries. The price is $35.

At 24 inches long, the hot dog is too heavy to hold with both hands without bending under its own weight.

The feat would not be such if it were not accompanied by a challenge to eat this monstrosity: anyone over the age of 21 who manages to eat the entire hot dog in 15 minutes can win $100.
“Three people have tried to conquer this challenge, but none have been able to,” Reyna said. “This challenge is not for just anyone. We are still waiting for our champion.”
Challenges have become a tradition at this taqueria. The first was to eat 20 trompo tacos in 15 minutes. The second was to eat La Reyna, the largest 6-pound hamburger in D-FW, in 30 minutes. Now there’s a challenge to eat this hot dog in 15 minutes.

Reyna was born in Monterrey, Mexico’s second-largest city. At 17, he immigrated to Dallas, where he married and now has seven children.
For years, he worked in other people’s taquerías until, in 2024, he opened his own business inside Express Corner Store in Hurst. Now he has three taquerías: one in Hurst, one in Melissa, and one in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
