EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – A suspect was arrested Wednesday on narcotics and firearm-related charges following a K9 alert, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO).
EPSO said Deputy Dakota Richardson and K9 Mako, the sheriff’s office’s newest certified K9, responded to a vehicle that was suspected of carrying narcotics around 4:15 p.m. The vehicle’s location was not shared.
Once on scene, deputies said K9 Mako conducted an open-air sniff and alerted positively to the vehicle, prompting a search.
According to deputies, approximately 350 (52 grams) fentanyl pills, 44 grams of meth, 105 grams of psilocybin mushrooms and a loaded firearm with a full magazine were found in the vehicle.
EPSO said the suspect, 31-year-old Warren Wooten, was arrested on three counts of unlawful distribution, manufacture, dispensing or sale of a controlled substance and special offender – drug offenses.
“This is another example of how our K9 Unit strengthens public safety across El Paso County,” El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal said. “Deputy Dakota Richardson and K9 Mako did outstanding work—removing dangerous drugs and a loaded weapon from a known felon from our community before they could cause harm. Their teamwork reflects the dedication, training, and vigilance our deputies bring to every call.”
According to deputies, Wooten was taken to the El Paso County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
