Texas A&M battled until the final buzzer, but Arkansas’ defense forced 16 turnovers and captured a 99-84 victory over the Aggies at Bud Walton Arena on Wednesday night.

The Aggies came out throwing haymakers against the Hogs with a 9-2 lead early, as graduate forward Rashaun Agee drained a 3-pointer and slammed one home to put the Maroon and White in front. Arkansas quickly snatched the game away from Texas A&M, however, with starting forward Billy Richmond III dropping 15 points and leading his squad to an 11-point lead at the half.

Through the first three minutes of the second half, the Razorbacks had extended their lead to 15 points and showed no signs of slowing down. Texas A&M guard Zach Clemence had other ideas, as he notched a career-high 29 points to allow the Aggies to close the gap, 61-57, with 11 minutes remaining. Turnovers and fouls plagued the Maroon and White, which ultimately was the dagger in the hopes of taking the lead back from the Hogs.

One massive positive in Bucky McMillan’s unit’s performance was their defensive outing against Arkansas guard Darius Acuff Jr., who entered Wednesday’s contest leading the SEC in scoring and had secured eight consecutive games with 20-plus points. He also ranked first in the conference with 6.2 assists and 34.6 minutes played per contest, but Texas A&M held him to 7-of-19 from the field and 1-of-6 from 3-point range. He still managed to record 22 points, while starting forward Billy Richmond III led the Hogs with 23 points.

Next up, the Aggies will return to Reed Arena on Saturday for a matchup against in-state rival Texas. Tipoff against the Longhorns is set for 3 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
