City Slang, a punk band from Dallas, keeps their sound raw, fast, and direct. The group is a passion project for Buck, also known as Chuck Regan, who used to play in New England bands like React and Diallo. Buck handles all the instruments, teaming up with vocalist Jason James.

When Buck moved to East Dallas and settled near Jason, their long-held dream of starting a stripped-down, no-nonsense punk band finally became a reality. Their aim was clear: short, intense songs with nothing extra. They draw inspiration from bands like Poison Idea, Blitz, Void, Broken Bones, The Stooges, and The Mummies.

As Jason describes it to No Echo, the result is “hard punk… more punk than hardcore, so the dial sits closer to that side. But it definitely has a hard edge. Busted glass, cracked teeth. Aggressive, fucking pissed, and fucking punk.”

Their debut release, CS1, shows off that raw energy. The lyrics deal with the stress of living in a “fucked up city and fucked up world,” and Jason calls the music “a pressure valve for that constant stress.” Buck recorded everything in his home studio, then sent it to Jack Control at Enormous Door for mastering.

With CS2 planned for later this year, City Slang is just getting started, and they have no plans of slowing down.
