“Sell Out,” a new comedy film by Austin-based filmmakers the Holden brothers, makes its world premiere at the Austin Film Festival tonight.
Filmmaker Nick Holden and his daughter, Adeline Holden, who also acts in the film, joined Trevor Scott and Sierra Waggoner in the studio to chat about the film and the exciting AFF premiere.
“it’s a comedy film. It’s a satire about modern day life and, you know, real meditation on authenticity and kind of like, you know, how do you be authentic in today’s world and the character, he’s a novelist and he’s a he’s a successful ours, but he’s trying to find his third book and he’s really struggling, and he has an opportunity to sell out and he’s he’s trying to figure out what he should do.”
The film explores themes of angst, authenticity, and the absurdity of life. Starring in her first movie, Adeline shared her excitement about finally landing a role in one of her dad’s films.
” When I was about seven, I was talking to my dad and I was like, ‘Dad, I want to be in one of your movies,” she said, “And it was so fun getting to work with my dad because, I mean, I was a little nervous at first, but I felt a lot more confident knowing that my dad was there.
Filming took place in Austin, adding a local touch to the production, and Adeline even added her own original music to the character and story, ” I really love when I get to sing ‘Inside Out,’ because I feel like the lyrics can really reflect some of the movie because anything has to make a choice if he wants to sell out or if he wants to write about something he really cares about,” she said
As the world premiere approaches, the filmmakers hope audiences will connect with the film’s unique perspective and humor.
“I want them to laugh. It’s funny, you know, there’s a lot of physical humor. And I want them to maybe cry. It’s like little touching our relationship, you know, maybe meditate a little bit on authenticity and this modern world and, like, you know, you got to laugh sometimes at it.”
