Bexar County, home of San Antonio, must hold off for now on disbursing $566,000 in legal services for individuals facing immigration and deportation proceedings, a Texas appeals court said.
The flow of funds is frozen pending the outcome of Attorney General Ken Paxton’s (R) challenge to a program he says amounts to an unlawful gift to private organizations that use the funds in ways that don’t benefit the public.
The per curiam order announced Wednesday will remain in place as the Court of Appeals, Fifteenth District sorts out Paxton’s appeal of a trial court order permitting the release of money. …
