AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is partnering with several agencies to accept applications for its Panhandle Grassland Restoration Incentive Program (PGRIP).
PGRIP helps provide financial assistance to landowners and ag producers who implement conservation practices to restore grassland habitats.
This comes as the West Texas area has lost significant grassland habitat due to increases in tree cover, conversion to cropland or pastureland, and urban and rural development.
A news release states this loss in grasslands threaten area wildlife species, including bobwhite quail and other birds, pronghorn and mule deer.
Priority counties for the program include: Armstrong, Bailey, Carson, Castro, Cochran, Dallam, Deaf Smith, Donley, Gray, Hartley, Hemphill, Hutchinson, Lipscomb, Lynn, Moore, Ochiltree, Oldham, Potter, Randall, Roberts, Terry, Wheeler, and Yoakum.
There are several other counties eligible for the program as well. To see the full list, click here.
The voluntary eligible practices include:

The wildlife department, Quail Forever, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are joined in the partnership.
