EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso County’s top elected administrative job is on the ballot in the Republican primary, with Minerva Torres Shelton running for county judge for a seat currently held by El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego.

Torres Shelton appeared on KFOX14 Community Conversations to discuss her campaign and take questions on several issues affecting county residents.

During the interview, she was asked why voters should re-elect her and, if elected, what her priorities would be.

She was also questioned about property taxes and what she would propose to realistically ease the burden on homeowners.

Another topic raised was concern over AI data centers in El Paso and their potential impact on local resources, including what should be done to address those concerns.

The interview also touched on immigration detention. El Paso has been in the national spotlight over East Camp Montana at Fort Bliss, described as one of the biggest immigration detention centers in the country on federal land.

Torres Shelton was asked about that facility and about the possibility of another detention center in Socorro that would fall under the county, including what she thinks needs to be done.
