AUSTIN, Texas — A woman involved in a crash in north Austin Tuesday morning is seeking justice after the driver of the other vehicle fled from the scene.

The two-vehicle crash occurred around 9:04 a.m. near the intersection of Research Boulevard and Burnet Road Tuesday, according to the Austin Police Department. When officers arrived, they found only one vehicle at the scene, with its occupants reporting that the second vehicle had driven away.

CBS Austin spoke with Summer Rusch, who was in the vehicle with her sister and her sister’s boyfriend at the time of the crash. She said they were driving on Research Boulevard when they heard a loud screeching noise.

“I turned around just in time to see the impact,” Rusch said. “You know when you take a picture with flash and blink because the flash is so bright? That’s what it felt like.”

She said the other driver exited his vehicle, and they spoke with each other to determine if anyone was injured.

“People were honking, people were driving past. They didn’t really care,” Rusch said. “Even the people that had just seen what happened… Even to the point they were almost running us over.”

They agreed to pull into a nearby parking lot so they could exchange information. After they pulled in, she realized the other driver did not follow them.

Detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver of the other vehicle, described as a dark-colored, two-door Jeep with the text “DON’T DO IT” on the driver’s side front.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male between 40 and 50 years old, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with short, curly black hair.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident is urged to submit an anonymous tip through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477.

A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.

“We’re feeling pretty crushed, but still trying to remain hopeful that he will be located,” Rusch said. “I think best case scenario would be the guy coming forward himself, but I don’t anticipate that happening.”

The investigation is ongoing.
