Maverick Con will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday in the University Center.

The event is centered around pop culture aspects like comic books, video games and anime, said Haylee Jenkins, Student Activities graduate assistant. Admission is $6 for students and $11 for faculty and staff, according to the UTA tickets website.

Maverick Con will include activities such as a cosplay competition, an esports competition, artist alley shopping, a meet and greet with voice actors Daman Mills, Jennie Kwan and Jessie James Grelle in the Bluebonnet Ballroom, and more.

Student organizations such as the Anime Club, the Japanese Culture Society and the Lavender Alliance will be hosting activities such as panels, trivia and presentations.

“We have an artist alley of over 75 small businesses that are all bringing their own sort of niches,” Jenkins said. “So I think you can really find something everywhere.”

Jenkins said she hopes the event helps students become aware of the local talent in Dallas-Fort Worth by showcasing voice actors and performers from UTA and the surrounding area.

“We’ve had some alumnis that are also voice actors. It’s really great to see that represented within the UTA community,” she said.

Jenkins said the Maverick Con is a new event, and she hopes for a high turnout and the opportunity to expand the event in the future.
