TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – On Thursday night, the East Texas Food Bank celebrated its third annual empty bowls event.
It’s a fundraiser which serves 26 counties where many families face food insecurity. With 18 restaurants, raffles, and a silent auction, it’s a great night for a great cause. and because every dollar donated provides five meals, the support from the community really goes a long way.
“We use the empty bowls concept and people can take an empty bowl with them tonight,” says David Emerson, CEO of the East Texas Food Bank. “It’s really a reminder of the food insecurity that exists in our 26 counties, 1 in 5 adults who are considered food insecure, 1 in 4 children in our 26 counties.”
The last two years helped provide about a million meals, and tonight they expect to add another 850,000 — nearly 2 million meals over three years for east Texas.
