ABERNATHY, TX (KCBD) – An estimated 150 to 200 people attended a town hall meeting Thursday night to hear details about a proposed AI data center planned just outside Abernathy’s city limits.
Representatives from Aligned Data Centers presented the proposal and took questions from residents. The meeting ended at approximately 8:30 p.m.
The data center is planned north of Abernathy near Interstate 27 and FM 54. Aligned Data Centers representatives said they attended the meeting to address common concerns about the facility, including water use, the construction process, sustainability and energy.
On the topic of water, company representatives said the center will use a closed-loop cooling system they said uses less water daily than a local car wash.
Abernathy Mayor Harold Bufe said he would not allow any project that would hurt residents.
Cardell Andrews of Aligned Data Centers said the company hoped to address resident concerns. “Hopefully address any concerns we can… focus on. It’s something we take pride in,” Andrews said.
The project is located outside city limits, but Mayor Bufe said if the area were annexed, the facility would provide a significant economic impact to the city.
