The ground stop is through 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

HOUSTON — There is a ground stop at Bush Airport (IAH) right now. The FAA lists “staffing” as the reason for the stop through 6:30 p.m. Flights coming into Houston are affected.

Inbound flights are being held at their originating airport in surrounding regions.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has warned that airport delays would worsen as the government shutdown, which is in its third week, continued.

KHOU 11 is continuing to monitor flights at Bush and Hobby airports. There were 35 delayed flights out of Bush at 5:20 p.m.

On Tuesday, both Hobby and Bush had ground stops because of staffing.

Federal aviation workers working unpaid

Federal employees who keep the skies safe, including air traffic controllers and TSA agents,  are still showing up to work, but they’re not being paid.

Delays have been widespread, with several major hubs across the country feeling the ripple effects of the shutdown.

Many air traffic controllers are working overtime to keep flights moving safely despite growing uncertainty and missed paychecks.

This shutdown is now tied for the second longest in U.S. history, and aviation unions warn that the longer it lasts, the harder it will be to maintain normal operations nationwide.
